Welcome to "The EcoPhotographer"This entry was posted on 9/17/2006 7:02 PM and is filed under Conservation,Photo Trips,EcoPhotography. I guess we have finally made it to the 21st century by entering the so
called "blogosphere" with what Marcy and I are calling, "The
EcoPhotographer," which I'll primarily use as a way to keep those of
you who might be interested up to date with current photo
projects. When I'm on the road and have internet access, I am
hoping to add comments nightly or every couple of days anyway. It
should be fun and I really encourage any readers who might be out there
to write in with their own comments.
Most of the entries for the next 8 or 9 months will probably relate to a big conservation book project we are working on now about the Connecticut River watershed (stay tuned!), but tonight I though I'd start with a photo from Prong Pond, near Maine's Moosehead Lake. ![]() Matt canoeing on Prong Pond The shores of Prong Pond, as well as shoreline on Moosehead Lake and four other nearby water bodies are currently at risk of being developed into nearly 1000 house lots (as well as a resort or two) by Plum Creek who owns nearly 1 million acres of Maine forestland. I won't go into the details here, but you can read more about the threats posed by this project by visiting the website of the Natural Resources Council of Maine. I recently spent five days with Diano Circo from NRCM and my friend Matt Devlin in the Moosehead Region, exploring many of the proposed development sites by canoe and ended up with some great photos of Prong Pond, Lily Bay in Moosehead Lake, Brassua Lake, the Moose and Kennebec Rivers, Indian Pond, and Moosehead Lake itself. Here are a few sample photos from the trip: ![]() Sunset on Indian Pond ![]() This is an aerial of the "Big W" portion of Moosehead Lake that is slated for development. It is the northwestern shoreline of the lake. ![]() A forest scene on Sugar Island in Lily Bay ![]() Mt. Kineo at Sunrise. I'll be heading back for a few days this fall when foliage season is in full swing. In the meantime I hope you'll check out the NRCM website and learn more about their efforts on Moosehead Lake. That's all for now. -Jerry Monkman CommentsDisplay comments as (Linear | Threaded)
