I just got the word that I'll be speaking at the North American Nature Photography Association's Annual Summit next year in Destin, Florida.  The Summit is from February 27 through March 3, and my presentation will be one of twelve breakout sessions.  If you have never been to a NANPA summit, I highly recommend you make the trip.  Besides the breakout sessions, there are also several great keynote presentations, portfolio reviews, and optional photo tours and workshops.  Next year's Summit will be the ninth that I have attended.

My breakout session, titled "Think Globally, Shoot Locally" will describe how I have successfully partnered with New England conservation groups over the last decade to create compelling photography that has been instrumental in protecting several hundred thousand acres of open space.  I will show images from several projects that have inspiring conclusions, including the 170,000 acre headwaters region of the Connecticut River and Katahdin Lake, one of the wildest, most scenic lakes in northern Maine. I will also describe the process of relationship building with non-profits, and discuss ways to make the financial aspect of these projects work for both the photographer and the client.

This will be my second time speaking at a NANPA summit (I did a presentation on Extreme lenses in 2003), and I am very excited to have the chance to do this again.  It is a wonderful group of photographers and I give NANPA a lot of credit for helping Marcy and me define and further our career as adventure and conservation photographers.

The details of the NANPA summit should be up on their website (www.nanpa.org) soon.

Until next time...
-Jerry
