A red eft below a small waterfall in Eden, Vermont.

It is the time of year when I'm away from home shooting four or five days a week, working on personal projects and assignments.  Last week, I worked on two conservation projects for the Trust for Public Land, including a 5000+ acre forest in northern Vermont.  This forest in Eden, Vermont borders the Long Trail in the Green Mountains.  It's a great (and increasingly rare) opportunity to protect a big chunk of Vermont forest from development as Eden is only about 30 minutes up VT 100 from Stowe, possibly the busiest tourist spot in the state.

Before the Eden shoot, I spent a night at the Lakes of the Clouds hut in New Hampshire's White Mountains.  My goal was to photograph some alpine flowers as part of our Connecticut River project, as well as get a few hiking shots.  The weather didn't cooperate much, but I did manage a few good flower shots and to meet some new friends (and connect unexpectedly with some old friends).  It turned into a mental health break as much as a work trip - I'm lucky my job takes me to such wonderful places!

I also photographed a TPL project in Turner, Maine, which would protect more than a mile of undeveolped river frontage on the Androscoggin River.  This property abuts a state forest, and the two properties together offer some great mountain biking, as well as some quiet river fishing.

I'm currently in Hanover, New Hampshire, hoping to shoot some good photos along the Appalachian Trail this afternoon and tomorrow after the hot, hazy weather passes through.  Saturday, I'll be heading up to the Connecticut River's headwaters region in search of moose.

Until next time...
